Enlarge Your library "To Infinity and Beyond"

Sometimes, making families which has no parameters but has complicated shape is pretty annoying work. How the hell can I make a beautiful smooth sofa with only Extrusion and Sweep in Revit? Maybe, it's not impossible if i had more than enough time. But who has it?

The picture above is from one of SketchUp 3D Warehouse library. And there are more you know. Even if there isn't what exactly you want, It's not very difficult to make this kind of round shape model with SU(or there must be more comfortable tool for modeling rather than Revit for each of you). How awesome is that, If we can use these models in Revit as it is?

The images above are what you can get when the SketchUp file directly imported in Revit. It's not bad, but edge lines can't be hide.(You will see it clearly if you enlarge the image.) And materials can't be modified.

To Infinity and Beyond.

One of my favorite movies

Here is what I found that makes these possible;  hide lines, editable materials.
Autocad and 3ds-max used in addition. Autocad is not necessary If you just want to hide lines only. Autocad is used for materials.(Has English subtitle on it)

Well, I rarely use this trick. But there must be someone who need this.

Enjoy. :-)

  1. wow, i have been looking for that for years, i used to apply the (auto edge ) it will hide the edges in 3dsmax but not revit, thank you very much.
one thing please, i exported an object from max to Autocad, and put in a layer (stone), when i imported it to Revit, in object style, applyed a material with a texture, but it wont show in Realistic mode, it is only a solid color, what did i do wrong ?

    1. If you want map render. There are two that you have to check.
      1. UVW map coordination - This can't be changed after imported to Revit as i know, so you have to make sure in SU or 3DS.
      2. Location of the map image file(I think this part is the problem for you) - This has to be somewhere Revit can recognize. Use the location of original location of Revit materials, or add new location at Revit option. To make this easy, just use one of the images of Revit materials.
      Revit materials usually located bottom.
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures\..... (if you are using Windows7)
      Thanks for reading.
      Enjoy. :-)

  2. Thank,
I think this is not the case, I used one of the revit's out of the box materials, so it knows where to finds its uv maps, and I think if you apply a UV in max it will lost in the DXF export process.
